Book Summary

One Piece, Vol. 112 by Eiichiro Oda marks a monumental turning point in the epic manga series, as the Straw Hat Pirates finally step foot onto Elbaph, the legendary land of the giants. This volume, encompassing chapters 1134 through 1144, dives deep into the rich cultural tapestry and ancient lore of the warrior nation. As the crew splits up to explore their massive new surroundings, they uncover hidden histories and complex political struggles. However, the giants' sanctuary is soon threatened by the arrival of a devastating new force, forcing the Straw Hats to navigate a web of secrets, family betrayals, and an impending war.

The volume opens with a sense of awe as the giants welcome the Straw Hats, giving them a grand tour of the Sun World. The crew visits remarkable landmarks like the Walrus School for young warriors and the majestic Owl Library. This library is particularly significant, as it serves as the safe haven for the countless books rescued from the tragic Buster Call on Ohara over two decades ago. In a deeply emotional sequence, Nico Robin explores this repository alongside her old friend Jaguar D. Saul, whose survival brings a poignant closure to her past. Concurrently, Vegapunk's satellite, Lilith, introduces a glimmer of scientific hope, revealing a perfect replica of Dr. Vegapunk and her plans to build a new laboratory in Elbaph to restore Bartholomew Kuma. Through Saul and an ancient artifact known as the Harley, the crew learns that world history is divided into three distinct eras, while Franky uncovers murals detailing massive wars from the Void Century.

However, the scholarly discoveries and festive atmosphere are violently interrupted by the infiltration of the Knights of God, the World Government's most elite enforcers. Two mysterious figures breach the Aurust Castle in the Western Village, easily overpowering the giant guards. They are soon unmasked as Figarland Shamrock and Gunko. In a jaw-dropping revelation, Shamrock bears an identical resemblance to Red-Haired Shanks—revealed to be his older twin brother, differing only by his longer hair and lack of facial scars. Their covert mission is not to hunt pirates, but to forcefully recruit the disgraced Prince of Elbaph, Loki, into their ranks to subjugate the warrior nation under the World Government's absolute control.

The narrative then shifts to the tragic history of Loki, who has been imprisoned in the Underworld for six years following his capture by Shanks. Legend dictates that Loki murdered his father, King Harald, to claim a legendary power and follow the chaotic path of the Sun God Nika. Yet, when confronted by the World Government's elite, Loki stubbornly refuses their offer of an alliance. In retaliation, Shamrock, wielding a terrifying sword named Cerberus, and Gunko, utilizing the unavoidable strikes of her Arrow-Arrow Fruit, ruthlessly assault the chained prince. With their recruitment plan foiled, the Knights of God pivot to a much more sinister strategy. They decide to take Elbaph's children hostage to force the giants into submission, summoning additional Knights, Saint Sommers and Saint Killingham, to execute the kidnapping.

Blissfully unaware of this escalating invasion, Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and the giant Road journey into the Underworld in search of the key to Loki's chains. Luffy is determined to free the prince simply to interrogate him about Shanks's whereabouts. While navigating the ruins of King Harald's old Ouest Castle, they encounter a mysterious older man calling himself "Ya-san." Following a brief but intense clash that forces Luffy to utilize his Gear 5 abilities, the man's true identity is revealed to be Scopper Gaban, the legendary former member of the Roger Pirates. Recognizing the young pirates' resolve, Gaban surrenders the key, allowing Luffy and Zoro to proceed toward Loki's prison.

Upon reaching the Underworld, Luffy and Zoro find Loki severely battered but far from defeated. In a terrifying display of raw power, Loki stands up, having already broken most of his restraints, and aggressively threatens his would-be rescuers. The situation spirals completely out of control when the prince unleashes a devastating lightning strike upon the Treasure Tree Adam, igniting a massive wildfire. Simultaneously, chaos erupts in the Sun World above. The deepest fears and nightmares of the young giant students mysteriously manifest into colossal, bloodthirsty beasts that begin ravaging the Walrus School. Despite their immense pride and strength, the adult giants find themselves overwhelmed, struggling to fend off the supernatural monsters while simultaneously battling the oppressive Devil Fruit powers of the invading Knights.

The volume races toward a thrilling, high-stakes climax as multiple factions violently collide. Luffy manages to knock some sense into the rampaging Loki, allowing the giant doctor Gerd to treat his life-threatening wounds. During a tense confrontation with his half-brother Hajrudin, Loki vehemently denies murdering their father in cold blood, hinting at a much deeper and darker conspiracy behind his imprisonment. As news of the hostage situation at the school reaches the rest of the crew, the Straw Hats, the New Giant Warrior Pirates, and Scopper Gaban quickly mobilize. With the ancient tree burning and Elbaph's greatest weaknesses—fire and lightning—tearing through the land, they rush to the frontlines to save the children. Volume 112 concludes on a gripping cliffhanger, setting the ultimate stage for an all-out war to protect the future of the giant race.
